6 Things You Should Know Before Travelling to Vietnam

In 2019, Vietnam was rated as one of the 10 most attractive destinations in the world by the American Tourism Association ( USTOA). In recent years, more and more foreigners have chosen Vietnam as a place to explore, travel, relax and live. However, for first time visitor to this S – shaped land, there will be some new obstacles to overcome. The following article will reveal to you about certain things to know before coming to Vietnam

1. Some useful phrases in vietnamese

 “Xin chào” -Hello: Sure, this is a common phrase which you need to know when you come to not only Vietnam but also anywhere around the world. But a different thing is in Vietnam, when Vietnamese people hear “Xin chào” from a foreigner, they become even more welcoming. They are willing to give you a smile and help if you need. Don’t worry about coming to this S-shaped country because the Vietnamese people are very friendly and hospitable.
So when you receive help from others, what should you say? To thank them say “Cảm ơn nhiều”. On the other hand,  you feel guilty about something you did to someone. Apologize to them by saying ‘Xin lỗi’.
Vietnam is a famous “heaven” of eating and drinking. So don’t hesitate to give praise when you appreciate the dishes here.  Say to them “ Ngon quá” (delicious) “Cảm ơn”. It is not really difficult, right?
To sum up, some useful phrases are simple but very common in Vietnam. 2. Don’t forget changing the currency

Nowaday, in Vietnam, lots of people pay in cash. In restaurants, supermarkets, malls, etc you can pay by card, but cash is still an important role. When you go to the market or bus, etc, you can’t pay by card. Therefore, you are required  to change the currency when you live here. You can exchange your money for foreign currency at a bank, an airport, or a range of permission. Pay attention to ‘ĐẠI LÝ THU ĐỔI NGOẠI TỆ’ sign. Be careful - you can be punished for illegal currency exchanges. The safe way is changing the currency at a bank.

3. Buy a SIM card

It seems simple, but it’s very useful. As soon as the plane lands safely, you need to get a Sim card. This small thing has an important role during the time you live in Vietnam. You can access the Internet and call someone, or keep in contact with your friends.As stated by other people, you should send your location to your friends for your safety. 

4. Across the road in Vietnam-big cities

According to Sumitra- a tourist, if you intend to visit Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh city, the first thing is forget all the rules which you used to know before. “You stop waiting for the vehicle, forget the traffic light. In Vietnam, the way to cross roads is going ahead and threading your way through the traffic slowly . The marvelous thing is no one hits you.” Sumitra said.
That’s right, it seems humorous but you require noticing it. To cross the road in Vietnam, you notice 3S: first, ‘see’ - you need to observe the drivers, do they see you? How is their speed?. Next, ‘Signal’ - you have a sign for the driver to notice you, you can put up your hand. Finally, ‘step by step’ - you keep calm down and go straight. Are you worried about the vehicles will hit you? Don’t be scared. They always avoid you when they see you crossing the road. A Korean tourist who can cross the road after many times discover that: “In Hanoi, people like walking. They always give priority to the walker”

5. Remember to wear a mask before going out
Certainly, this is necessary when traveling to big cities because the amount of dust caused by transportation is too much anh not good for your health. To protect yourself, you should prepare some masks when coming to Vietnam. Don't be surprised when you see a lot of people who look like “ Street ninjas” when they drive a motorbike.

6. The dish that can not be missed when coming to Vietnam

The first dish that cannot be missed is Pho. This is the dish that has reached the top 10 best dishes in the world and can not be failed to mention when coming to Vietnam.
If coming to Hanoi, do not forget to visit the famous and long-standing Pho restaurants such as Pho Ly Quoc Su, Pho Bat Dan, Pho Thin ... .. Surely, you will have interesting experiences with this dish.
