Role Purpose:

To examine IELTS Speaking module, including second marking where necessary, maintaining the standards required by the IELTS Professional Support Network and the British Council.

The British Council delivers over 3 million UK exams worldwide in over 850 cities and towns. The East Asia region includes Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Burma and Thailand. Together these countries deliver over 260,000 exams annually. In Vietnam, our examination portfolio includes: IELTS, Aptis, University, Professional and School Examinations.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

Language Assessment

• Conduct IELTS speaking interviews.

• Conduct second marking and Enquiry on Results marking (where applicable) for the speaking module.

• Monitor Enquiry on Results markers (where applicable).

• Conduct and rate other IELTS and British Council exams.

• Other tasks relevant to the British Council English language and assessment services such as consulting, item writing or materials writing.

Role specific knowledge and experience:

Essential

• A minimum of three years' full-time relevant teaching experience (or equivalent part time) is required. Relevant teaching experience is class TESOL teaching to students over 16 years of age. Full-time teaching is classified as a minimum of 14 hours of face-to-face teaching per week. An applicant must be able to provide evidence that they have a minimum of 1500 hours of relevant TESOL teaching over 3 years. Almost all of this experience must be to students aged 16 and over.

• If an applicant's EFL / ESOL teaching qualification is at Certificate level (or equivalent), one of the three years of full- time teaching experience must be post qualification. If the TEFL / TESOL qualification is at Diploma level or higher, then teaching experience can be completed before the qualification was obtained.

• Qualified IELTS Examiner Trainer

• Experience of working in Asia and of supporting overseas colleagues

Languages:

Essential

  • The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
  • • English C2 Proficiency, expert user level (equivalent to IELTS band 9)

    Certification and Professional Qualifications:

    Essential

  • IELTS Speaking Examiners are required to maintain certification at Examiner level for the duration of the contract. If the successful applicant is not currently certificated as an IELTS Examiner, the applicant will be required to meet the PSN Minimum Professional Requirements and certificate to Examiner level.
  • CELTA or equivalent TEFL/TESOL qualification from a recognized institution (at minimum certificate level).
  • Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree plus
  • All qualifications must be validated by a reputable institution and accredited by a professional certification board. If requested, applicants are required to provide additional information regarding their qualifications (e.g. transcript, course curriculum, evidence of external validation, accreditation by a certification standards board etc).

    An IELTS Speaking Examiner is expected to have the following professional attributes and interpersonal skills:

    • Completes tasks accurately and in sufficient detail

    • Observes the need for confidentiality and secu rity

    • Responds positively to guidance and advice

    • Acts professionally at all times

    • Communicates effectively with colleagues and candidates and treats others with respect

    • Is sensitive to cultural differences

    • May be required to travel to various testing locations within Vietnam

    Further Information:

    Salary: VND 70,705,040 /month

    Flexibility

    Flexibility in working hours and days is expected in order to meet operational needs. The job may require some travel regionally and/or nationally, particularly at peak times of the year. It will also involve weekend working hours or evening work.

    International Transfer

    This role is open to all applicants including those who need to relocate to undertake the role. Candidates who do not have a natural right to work in the country will be provided with immigration clearance and visa support. Relocation support as set out in the British Council international relocation policy is applicable to candidate recruited outside of Vietnam.
