Central Committee of Communist Party of Vietnam approves resignation of State President Vo Van Thuong

March 20, 2024

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam has agreed to relieve President Vo Van Thuong of his duties as a member of the Politburo and a member of the 13th Central Party Committee. Thuong is a key leader of the Party and the state who has received fundamental training and has risen through the ranks from grassroots levels. He has also failed to fulfill the responsibility of setting an example for officials and Party members, particularly crucial for members of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Party Central Committee. The Party Central Committee tasks the Politburo with directing relevant agencies to implement the necessary procedures in compliance with regulations. Thuong was sworn in as state president in March 2023.
