Heatwave could expand across northern Vietnam from today

April 19, 2024

The national weather agency forecasts that scorching heat will spread into the delta and northeastern areas of northern Vietnam starting Friday, with temperatures potentially soaring up to 39 degrees Celsius in the central and northwestern regions. The rather cool weather accompanied by scattered showers in the northern region will probably give way to a heatwave from Friday, with mercury ranging between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting (NCHMF). The oppressive heat is also in the forecast for the central provinces running from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, where residents will likely see temperatures reach as high as 39 degrees Celsius. The heatwave in southern Vietnam may persist for the next few days and temperatures could stay above 37 degrees Celsius in several parts of the region, the national weather center said.
