A police officer in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam has been suspended from work, pending an investigation into the death of a man who collapsed during police questioning and later passed away in the hospital last week. The officer is Captain Thai Thanh Thuong, deputy head of a sub-division in charge of investigating social order-related crimes in Long Thanh District, the provincial police department said on Wednesday. On Friday last week, Vu Minh Duc, a 31-year-old resident in Long Thanh, was summoned to the district’s police agency for questioning, as he was previously accused of disturbing public order. Duc was subsequently transferred to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, where he was pronounced dead at 11:15 pm the same day. Police in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, were working to determine the root cause of Duc’s death.
