PetroVietnam Oil Corp hit by ransomware attack

April 03, 2024

Vietnam’s state oil distribution firm PetroVietnam Oil Corp (PV Oil) reported that its information technology system was deliberately and illegally targeted with ransomware on Tuesday. The cyberattack occurred at midnight on Tuesday, disrupting the information technology system of PV Oil, which operates over 780 petrol stations nationwide, including its electronic invoice issuance system. PV Oil has reported the incident to authorities and is actively working to resolve it swiftly. To ensure gasoline supply, PV Oil and its member units continue selling to customers, despite being unable to issue electronic invoices as mandated by the Law on Tax Administration. PV Oil intends to resume issuing electronic invoices and warehouse delivery notes in compliance with regulations once the system is restored.
