Philippine president to visit Vietnam next week

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his spouse will pay a state visit to Vietnam on January 29 and 30 at the invitation of Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Thu Hang said at a press briefing on Thursday afternoon. This will be the Philippine leader’s first Vietnam visit since he assumed office in late June 2022. His trip will mark the third state visit by a foreign leader to the Southeast Asian nation in January. Within the framework of his visit, the Philippine president will hold talks with his Vietnamese counterpart and meet with several top Vietnamese officials. Vietnam welcomed Indonesian President Joko Widodo on January 11, and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on January 23.
