Authorities of southeastern Vietnamese localities, including Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, Binh Duong Province, Binh Phuoc Province, Dong Nai Province, and Tay Ninh Province, have thrown their support behind the study and planning of a road along the Saigon River which would connect the southern metropolis with the other provinces in the region. The provinces reached a consensus on studying the development of a corridor along the Saigon River to comprehensively connect Ho Chi Minh City with neighboring Binh Duong Province and other southeastern localities at a meeting last month. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture was asked to coordinate with consulting units and other localities to study the planning for Saigon riverside areas to connect technical infrastructure, including bridges, roads, inland waterway ports, and cargo terminals to other southeastern provinces. The department will also consult the Departments of Construction of regional provinces over the Saigon riverside area planning this month. The agency is currently developing a project to boost the night-time economy along the Saigon River.
