Vietnam suspends 5 footballers indefinitely for gambling

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) on Tuesday issued a decision suspending five players of a football club in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, southern Vietnam indefinitely for gambling. The match, which took place at Ba Ria Stadium in the southern province, was part of the Gold Star V. League 2, the second-highest of the Vietnam football league system, after the V.League 1. Colonel Bui Van Thao, director of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Public Security, said that investigators requested prosecution against the five players for gambling in line with Article 321 of the Criminal Code in early February. The preliminary investigation result showed that the five bet on SHB Da Nang winning the game against their club on some gambling websites. As a result, the Ba Ria - Vung Tau team lost 1-3 to the Da Nang rivals.
