Vo Thi Anh Xuan takes on role of Vietnam’s acting state president

Vietnam’s Vice-State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan is now the acting president​ and​​​​​​ will stay in that position until the country’s law-making National Assembly (NA) elects a new state president, according to an NA Standing Committee announcement released on Thursday. She has been a member of the 12th and 13th Party Central Committee, and a National Assembly deputy in its 14th and 15th tenure. Previously, she held several positions in An Giang, including serving as the secretary of the provincial Party Committee. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam recently agreed to relieve State President Vo Van Thuong of his duties as a member of the Politburo and a member of the 13th Central Party Committee. Thuong was sworn in as state president in March 2023.
